Goodbye for now

Through the bad water, the crazy bikers, skinny staircases and amazing food, I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to travel and explore a new part of the world with my classmates and my family. Truly thankful for every experience and the friends I have met on the way. Now that I’m back home, I am realizing just how special it all was. I found out how I like to travel and the absolute breadth of knowledge one can gain from exploring the world. I learned about design across Europe, how people live across the world, and that we’re all pretty much alike when it comes down to...

Final Project

Behold: some* photos of my final project model and some renderings I did (mixed digital media/revit and hand/copic markers). For those of you who don’t know… my project was a paper mill warehouse turned teaching kitchen and cafe. *probably (definitely) too many photos but I wasn’t selective haha 🙂 hej hej M...

Reflection: Copenhagen

Hej friends and family, Now comes my time to leave this beautiful city and though I am excited to 1. not have school anymore, 2. be with my family, 3. travel Europe, and 4. finally get to experience summer… I am leaving behind wonderful new friends, unreal design and architecture, a great professor/studio, and a lot of great memories in a place I have called home. Here is my goodbye (for now) København, I am so thankful to have gotten to know this beautiful city. Though my study abroad experience started slow, it was wonderful and I would do it a million times over again. Below are some small thoughts/tips/photos from...

Sunshine Summatime

Today’s main event was a trip to Amager Strand which is a supercool beach east-ish/south-ish of the city! Beautiful views, amazing weather, and good company ~ what a dream! Finally felt like summer. (peep the pics below and if you want, read about the funniest, most awkward encounter of my 21 years of life)… Denmark is so trendy with its wind turbines and stuff nude beaches call for polaroids and no tan lines Below is my funny story about the beach:    🙂 It was all swell at the beach, swimmin, tannin, hangin, etc. (beachy stuff). Until we decided to go out onto the pier/dock/structure thing and take a swim!...

Royal Denmark

FIRST AND FOREMOST: A real-life PSA… No matter where you are traveling or even if you are just chillin in your hometown, be aware of your surroundings and guard your belongings. Some people with no morals and horrible intentions do exist and here’s just a small reminder that unfortunate things can happen to anyone… Today we were getting on the train to go to Hillerød and things seemed very uncomfy. The train sort of passed where we were standing so naturally, we all ran to the back car so we didn’t miss it. Well, so did everyone else because there was quite a mob trying to get into the last car...

Americans on Boats

People always ask me what my favorite thing about Copenhagen is or what my best experience was and though pretty much everything has been amazing, I definitely think today has got to be one of my favorite days. We didn’t have class so sleeping in was a joy (already a great start to any day) but was surprisingly productive working on my project from home before the majority of my day got started. After working for approximately 2 hours on work, Cindy and I decided a shopping break was totally necessary. We explored a few awesome places around school (s/o to project 4 in Kobenhavn K) and then ventured out...

Thanks, Eva

I am so thankful for today, my awesome danish professor, and great traditional danish dessert. Instead of the typical studio 8:30-12:15, we went on an all afternoon/night excursion! Starting at the beach just North of the city, we walked along the sandy shore and saw some neat Alvar Aalto buildings. Next was the Ordrupgaard museum featuring a really awesome Zaha Hadid sculptural concrete building and beautiful ourdoor installations as well as artwork by Hammershøi. Here are some photos from the outdoor exhibitions (above) Støvkornenes dans i solstrålerne // sunbeams by Hammershøi aka my fav painting by him  Lastly but certainly not least, our class had an AMAZING dinner prepared by our professor’s...

Sweden Rocks

Today was SO FUN!   It started out in the best way possible: We brunched at a cute place called SMAK in Malmö. If you didn’t already see my post about it, you can check it out here: [ http://michelletamura.com/2016/07/09/smak-malmo/ ] ~ but here is a highlight photo from the meal 😉 After our spectacular brunch we: – Walked around town for a bit – Shopped – Got tired and stopped for coffee at a place called NOIR – Went to a design museum – Wandered around Kungs Parken (translation: King’s park I’m fairly positive) and tried to go in to the museum but decided to just browse the gift shop...

Let’s Go 2 Malmö

Hej Hej Today was an adventure day! Earlier this week (lol Wednesday) I decided to book a trip to Malmö for 2 days with some friends! The bus left Copenhagen at 330 and it was a quick lil ride over to Sweden by bus. The bus was super cramped and had awfully patterned upholstery but it got me there in one piece for only 5 euro #deals. Our dinner search was met with disappointment when we found out the restaurant we wanted to go to was booked with reservations the entire night and our only option was to sit on the rain-soaked outdoor patio. We ended up eating at a...

Exploring Copenhagen!

Today was a good day! Aside from being super productive in studio, I also went to the design museum, watched 4 episodes of gossip girl, got really bored, went on a photography excursion, AND adventured with friends around town! Here are some highlights from the design museum ~so many famous chairs~ Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton… ~so dreamy~ At night I decided it was time to get out of my room and explore Copenhagen so a couple of friends and I went over to Nyhavn and took pics with friends! Photo credit (above): Britny Ching Jazz fest is going on in the city rn! End of the super-picturesque/heavily photographed harbor!...
