Not Traveling But…

Hi there everyone! I am beginning the process of transitioning this blog to an ~interactive~ portfolio/resume/blog!! This may take a while but it will be SO GREAT when it is all said and done. So… I am not totally sure what it will look like while changes are occurring BUT I will make sure to have my prior blog posts available for viewing! In the meantime, if you would like to check out my portfolio, you can do so right here!! See you on the other side! Michelle Ps. The header photo was taken at Gensler’s Oakland office!!...

Goodbye for now

Through the bad water, the crazy bikers, skinny staircases and amazing food, I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to travel and explore a new part of the world with my classmates and my family. Truly thankful for every experience and the friends I have met on the way. Now that I’m back home, I am realizing just how special it all was. I found out how I like to travel and the absolute breadth of knowledge one can gain from exploring the world. I learned about design across Europe, how people live across the world, and that we’re all pretty much alike when it comes down to...

Destination: Reykjavík

So we booked our flight so that we got in at 1am on the 12th. Normally that would be fine but we happened to be in a +2 hour time zone and got in at around 3am our time. With the post-flight logistics (like grabbing luggage, finding the rental car place, taking a shuttle, and driving 45 min to Reykjavik) it was about 2:30am. On the way to our airbnb we drove by tons of fast food chains, none of which were open. We ended up settling for the 24/7 market less than a block away from our place. At the market we wanted to buy microwavable thai food but...

Destination: Amsterdam

Greetings from Amsterdam! After departing London, we arrived in Amsterdam around 6pm. It happened to just be the busiest, craziest day of the year (pride) and conveniently we were staying right in the Centurum (center) district of the city. Upon arriving to our air bnb we were happily greeted by our hosts relatives and friends who were giant (height wise) and overflowing with energy and love. They helped us carry all our luggage up the steep stairs to the second floor and then told us to go explore and party with the rest of the dutch. I’ll include some photos I took during the pride canal parade cause it was...

Destination: London

We arrived in London on the 2nd after a quick flight from Switzerland. Our air bnb was in the neighborhood of Bethnal Green which is a mix of community housing and up-n-coming trendy spots (including some great restaurants!). Though pretty far from city center (45min commute by tube to oxford circus) it was perfect to come back after a long exhausting day in the city and was a nice change of pace. It also allowed for us to get out of the city a little and as my mom would say “actually see where people live!!!” <– she loved that phrase. BONUS: our neighborhood was close to the trendy/artsy/boutiquey neighborhood of...

Destination: Switzerland

GREETINGS FROM SWITZERLAND!!! On July 30th we left for the Copenhagen airport from our lil air bnb at the ripe hour of 7am and upon arriving to the airport (but after getting through security) we found our flight had been “cancelled” no warning or solution just cancelled. SO! We got rescheduled for a 430pm flight and spent the entire day playing pokemon go in the airport. Needless to say I earned the “visited 100 pokestops” medal during those hours waiting for our flight :)) Highly recommend the copenhagen airport for getting stuck waiting for a flight as well as playing pokemon go. When we got to switzerland it was about 6pm...

Final Project

Behold: some* photos of my final project model and some renderings I did (mixed digital media/revit and hand/copic markers). For those of you who don’t know… my project was a paper mill warehouse turned teaching kitchen and cafe. *probably (definitely) too many photos but I wasn’t selective haha 🙂 hej hej M...

Reflection: Copenhagen

Hej friends and family, Now comes my time to leave this beautiful city and though I am excited to 1. not have school anymore, 2. be with my family, 3. travel Europe, and 4. finally get to experience summer… I am leaving behind wonderful new friends, unreal design and architecture, a great professor/studio, and a lot of great memories in a place I have called home. Here is my goodbye (for now) København, I am so thankful to have gotten to know this beautiful city. Though my study abroad experience started slow, it was wonderful and I would do it a million times over again. Below are some small thoughts/tips/photos from...

42Raw

Hejjjj, Another amazing food spot in Copenhagen: 42Raw! This vegan, gluten-free restaurant has everything from acai bowls to tea lattes to pancakes to mushroom burgers! I went three times while I was in this city and though a bit pricey, I would eat here every day if I could. (photos below show our meals: avo sandwiches, pancakes, acai) The interior is small but efficiently used and the use of light walls and simple furniture really brighten the space. Here are some photos of the food and interior for your viewing pleasure 🙂 salads for order gluten-free goodies 10/10 would recommend with luv, m...

Sunshine Summatime

Today’s main event was a trip to Amager Strand which is a supercool beach east-ish/south-ish of the city! Beautiful views, amazing weather, and good company ~ what a dream! Finally felt like summer. (peep the pics below and if you want, read about the funniest, most awkward encounter of my 21 years of life)… Denmark is so trendy with its wind turbines and stuff nude beaches call for polaroids and no tan lines Below is my funny story about the beach:    🙂 It was all swell at the beach, swimmin, tannin, hangin, etc. (beachy stuff). Until we decided to go out onto the pier/dock/structure thing and take a swim!...
